Relapsed

It’s true.  I relapsed.

It happens to the best of people, you know?  You work hard, give it your best, you take two steps forward. . . and then three steps back.  It was over two years ago when I wrote this post about my addiction to cookbooks.  Cookbooks were everywhere and something had to be done.  Once I admitted my problem to the blogosphere I was able to make vast improvements.  I was proud of myself.  Recovery was possible.

Two years later, however. . .

I know.  Isn’t there a 12-step program for this?

This weekend, Chad made an attempt at another intervention.  He opened the cupboard for the world to see and directed me, get rid of them.Being the compliant wife that I am (teehehe. . . Did you like that one, Chad?) I got to work.

Voila. . .

Shall we say I “sobered up” again?

While I’d like to say that I did this because it is just what a sane person does. . . you know, a sane person does not hoard cookbooks and cooking magazines in excess.  In reality, I cleaned it out because I didn’t have a choice.

This sign was placed in our yard yesterday.  We’re moving.

Well, hopefully our house will sell and then we will be moving.  The move is a good thing and we are excited, but if you’ve spent any amount of time is this space you might know that change, even good changes, are not something I do with great ease.

Needless to say, we’ve spent the last couple of weeks cleaning, purging, organizing, donating, and preparing our house for sale.  The first showing is scheduled for today and we are obsessively noticing every fingerprint on windows and cheerio on the floor.  I won’t go into the endless bittersweet thoughts and feelings we’re experiencing at this point, but lets just say my insides have been a roller coaster.

Life continues to move forward, however, and we’re doing everything we can to keep up.

Speaking of keeping up. . . when did my 4 year old turn 14?  Seriously?

Last week we attended Chanelle’s preschool open house.

She was so excited to share with us the work she does at school. . . though I’m not sure that she was as excited as I was to see her in her school environment.

I will admit that it is a surreal feeling to see her at school.  To realize, I mean really realize, that she has a life that has nothing to do with me.  That while she needs me, she is also growing in independence and figuring things out on her own.

Sigh.

Meadow quickly seemed at ease at preschool. . .

I put a stop to that real quick.  Not your time, Meadow. . . Not. Your. Time.As we’ve prepared our house to sell we’ve encouraged the kids to play outside any chance we get.  Outdoor play doh is acceptable, right?

Our time has not been abundant as we’ve prepared the house and Chad and I constantly feel guilty for the time we are not spending with the kids. (Parent guilt–who doesn’t feel that?)  Life happens, though, and Charlie, Chanelle, and Meadow seem to understand that.

While our time might be more limited, we do our best to make the most of it.  Before bed, for example. . .

I’ve talked about the before bed wrestling matches, right?  Oh yes, they are epic. . .

Kids rolling on the floor, squealing voices, nonstop laughter, and every now and then. . . a few tears.  What can I say? It happens.

More than anything, though, smiles are stretched across happy faces and memories are being made.

Meadow’s attack stance

Isn’t this what it’s all about?

I have a feeling these are the evenings the kids will remember for the rest of their lives.  Certainly, I will.

I’m not sure what the next few weeks and months will look like.  I will do my best to keep up with Running Chatter as the road ahead of us unfolds, but as with any change, there are many unknowns ahead. Please be patient with me.

Happy Thursday!

I have the same problem with cookbooks. I try not to buy them anymore. I check them out from the library and copy the recipes I like. Then I put them in a binder. Well, that's what I do in theory! Good luck with the house sale. That's exciting.ReplyCancel

    Love Meadow's attack pose!!!ReplyCancel

If there is a 12 step program for cookbooks, I will join. My husband actually added a shelf in our kitchen for all the books and my magazines are all in Henry's closet…oops! The worst is I usually only use like 3 or 4 of them or just find recipes online :/

Good luck with selling your house!

Meadow's attack pose is FANTASTIC!! She is just too adorable. (her eyes melt through my soul!!)

Preschool open house looks fun. And uh, I want C's outfit 🙂ReplyCancel

Imperfect progress friend… imperfect progress. At least you were more apt to clean out the collection of cookbooks this time.

    🙂

And, do you already have your eyes on a house? I hope yours sells QUICKLY! But not too quickly – you need time to digest it all. I get that.

The photos of the open house were fantastic. Loved the Wrestlemania pics, too. Awesome.ReplyCancel
