Let me start by saying a big “public”, Thank you, to my most awesome husband for honoring me on my own blog last week.  To say I was surprised by his generous post, would be a huge understatement.  Chad, you’re awesome. (See folks, I told you. . . he’s a good one.) And for those […]

I hope you are having fun and relaxing a bit with your dad! The turtle and frog stories made me laugh. Steve and I went on a date this weekend, while my in laws watched the kids. When we arrived home, my MIL said "I'm sorry, just so you know, I can't be the mean one. I can't say no…."

I just gave her 'the look' and she continued…"It's just a tiny frog. Just a teeny tiny one"

Yes. The girls found a tiny frog and they let them bring it inside, make a home for it out of one of my tupperware containers and keep it next to their bed. I had the opportunity the next morning to be mean Mommy and have them put it back outside, where it has family and friends and food and a home. Tears.

Why? Because LAST time my inlaws watched the kids, they found multiple caterpillars. Brought them in, made a home in my tupperware containers and guess what….the girls took the top off to see them better. Gone from the container. Never to be seen again. Gross. I wasn't about to have a 'tiny' frog hopping around my house.

    Ha.ReplyCancel

Are you serious, S? Oh my word.

I think there is something different between being 'the bad guy' and 'being responsible'. "No, we cannot keep that frog because your Mommy will kill me", is a perfectly acceptable response. 😉

      That is a great story!

    Love this!

I think Meadow has it right on the camping thing….your bed INSIDE is so much better, heehee 🙂 But it looks like everyone had so much fun!

    M. face with that turtle, priceless!! I love that your kids (and husband) love those animals so much. Terry and Henry are the same way. Me, nope…I will enjoy from afar.

    The plane picture – fantastic!!

Oh my goodness, both girls!! hahaha! that is awesome 🙂 M. & C's faces after say it all.

Boo summer ending, but thank goodness it goes into my FAVORITE time of the year. I look forward to fall more than anything. I am sure that will change slightly when Henry is in school, but right now fall and pumpkins and holidays….at least it is a good season to go into even if summer is over!

Yeah, I would be right there beside you. haha!

    Have fun with your dad!!ReplyCancel

Birthday…by definition it is “the anniversary of a birth” or “the day of a person’s birth” or “a day marking or commemorating the origin, founding or beginning of something” or “the festivities or celebration marking such a day or anniversary”. Whatever definition one chooses to use, it’s a noun, which seems more like a verb. […]

    Happy happy birthday!

I've read your blog for awhile now and you have an amazing ability to write what I feel towards my children and watching them grow. Then add in your photos to go with the words, and I'm awe struck by the beauty of it all.

So, from this random stranger who lurks and reads fairly regularly, happy happy birthday. I hope you had a day filled with laughter, good times, and a heart overflowing with the love from your loved ones.

And how super sweet of your hubs to post so the strangers like me can send you birthday wishes. ReplyCancel

Thank you, dear stranger! I love to hear from the "lurkers" out there and honestly, your comment put the bow on an already wonderful day. Thank you for reading and for taking the time to comment.

awwww, this is such a sweet post from your husband!!! Love the words…you both have such a way with your words!

Hope you had an amazing birthday!ReplyCancel

I have seen assertions in the photography world that state that pictures should stand alone.  The belief says that if the picture is strong–no words should be needed.  I guess it goes along with the ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’ saying.  But for me?  I fell in love with the marriage of words […]

Beautiful! I think pictures can speak for themselves, but I also feel that pictures are sometimes stronger WITH words. I like stories. And I think photos bring out emotion in those stories. ReplyCancel

  • Katie - August 1, 2013 - 6:06 pm

i'm right there with you, summer. pictures always bring to mind something that happened in the past for me. something in a photo might trigger a long ago memory of my childhood. like the one here makes me think of running around with my big brother, big sister and favorite cousins playing "spotlight" in the front yard of my great aunt's place while all the grown ups are visiting quietly after supper under the big oak tree. yes, definitely words and photographs belong together. • Lissa Forbes - August 2, 2013 - 12:43 am

I'm with you, Summer. I like to tell the stories that go along with my pictures … as you do. Your blog is one of the few I actually really follow anymore. Sorry I don't comment more often. I've lost my momentum since I got a job. Maybe I just need a break.ReplyCancel

We talked about it for about a week beforehand.  We devised the plan, discussed the execution, and made sure that we kept everything under wraps.  It’s not like it was the first time we did it.  Really, it’s become somewhat of a tradition–we did it here and then again here.  They are getting older now, […]

I’m a week behind on the blog.  I know that doesn’t mean anything to anyone, but me.  This neurotic compulsion I have to document our life and the things we do and experiences we have.  It’s not that I just have to document them–I have to document them in order.  Certainly, there is a diagnosis […]

Weekends there are crazy and if you want to get some serious shopping done, don't take the kids. We love it there, it's about an hour drive from our house. It's a nice day date type thing to do once in a while.ReplyCancel

Oh my gosh, the last picture…I laughed AND cried. So funny and sad at the same time. I feel that way, even on a weekday, at Ikea. But, I always go back. In fact, I have plans to drag all 3 kids there this week by myself again. Can't pass up a deal on a chair for my office. I mean, I NEED a chair, right? It may be the ONE thing that is keeping me from staying current with my own blog. 😉

Meadow carrying her bear is adorable. You sure did have a full weekend! And you seemed SO relaxed. I need your secret. ReplyCancel

Although I regret that I didn't send my Ikea advice early enough to be useful, the silver lining is it made for some great narrative and photos for your lovely blog! I am not kidding when I say to go to Ikea on a Sunday night. Once I did this with my sister in law and it was like we had the entire store to ourselves…Sheer enjoyment! Try it if you can!
