Adventures in our Land

Fancy clothes, fancy shoes, nice darkened restaurants with tables lit by candlelight. Dancing the night away to the best music while letting the stresses of the week melt away.  Walking the town, taking in the night scene, meeting up with friends and laughing until the early morning hours and thinking of nothing but the here and now.

Isn’t that what most people do on Friday nights?  Well, the cool people, anyway.

If you’re like us, Friday night includes corn, hay bales, shooting pumpkins with sling shots, and all kinds of exotic animals.  At least this Friday did.

Yes, we are that cool. . . don’t mess with us.

This guy seriously freaked me out. . . doesn’t he look evil?

He actually stabbed Chad with his beak

Oh, I could try to play it cool and pretend that I am way beyond this stuff, but I can not tell a lie.  I’ve been counting down the days until this little Harvest Fest.  For weeks I’ve been hounding Chad, when is the Harvest Fest?  We went for the first time last year and it did not disappoint.

It rained all day on Friday and we intensely watched the sky in hopes that our evening plans would not be ruined.  Far from it.  The clouds parted and the sun greeted us with it’s most brilliant smile to provide an evening of warmth and memory making.

How much fun can one have with hay bales and massive piles of corn?  Why, I’m so glad you asked.

Do these smile answer your question?  When I think back to my own childhood there are so many “traditions” that I remember.  Things that we looked forward to every year and counted down the days until that day arrived.  I think this will be one of our traditions for years to come.

Corn diving. . .

I’ll be honest.  My younger “cooler” self never would have imagined that I would anticipate such and event with the excitement that I do, but I can’t help it.  The smiles on the faces of my little ones are hard to beat.  For hours they dive into corn and get hay stuck in all sorts of places on their bodies and their enthusiasm is contagious.

For a few moments I stepped back and watch my family from afar and was (once again) filled with thankfulness for the simple little joys in life.  I watched as Chanelle interacted with my FIL and as Charlie sat with a friend from school and I really noticed how much they have grown.  How far they have come.

And I wonder what it all will look like next year.  Oh my, the difference a year makes.  Last year, there is no way Charlie would have left our side to chill with a classmate.  Last year, there is no way I would have let him leave my side to chill with a classmate.  Oh, how time marches on. . . and it really isn’t as scary as I thought.

I’ll admit, there was no night life and fancy shoes involved in our Friday night. . .

. . . but we had a dryer full of corn. Can you really beat that?

And just to finish up the adventures in our land, our Saturday kept up the momentum.  Not only did Charlie get to throw in his first soccer ball during his     game. . .

But a trip to urgent care to make sure that Chanelle didn’t break her nose rounded out our weekend.

Our little girl got hit in the face with a wooden tree swing leaving plenty of scratches, bleeding, and black and blue marks.  We waited a few days but the swelling and bleeding continued to increase and so we took her in.

We have a little trooper on our hands.

Thankfully, her nose isn’t broken.  She just looks like she was mangled by that evil little Emu.  Unfortunately, we were told it will look worse before it looks better and we will likely be looked at as less than ideal parents for a few weeks.

Like I said. . .who needs city lights and fancy restaurants. . . we’re parents.

We’ve got plenty of adventures.

Enjoy your Monday, Friends!

That Emu is scary. Don't Emus spit often? Luckily, it sounds like you guys didn't get to experience that. 😉

It must have been the weekend for boo-boos. E lost control down our slide and ended up going half way down on her face. Her eye was bleeding and now she has somewhat of a black/red eye and red marks all down her face. The joys of parenthood.ReplyCancel

Hey Summer! I am kicking myself NOW! I am now ticked off that we did not take our kiddos over to Walnut Creek. After reading your post and looking at all the fun pictures, we WILL hopefully get over there next year! 🙂 So glad to hear that Chanelle's nose is okay! OUCH!
