I Am Not A Photographer. . .

. . . but I play one on Running Chatter.

I’m not a photographer.  Despite the fact that I sometimes dream about my camera and different shots I want to take, still I remain just past the starting line of the distance I would love to travel some day.  So many things I want to learn, so much reading I’ve yet to do, so many concepts I’ve yet to understand.

But still. . . I play.

Recently, a friend sent me an  idea for a picture she thought I’d like to take.  (Thank you, Kelly!).  As soon as I saw it I just knew I had to try it.  Literally, the next day I ran out and purchased the needed props and set out to create this adorable shot.

The subject?  Meadow
The props?  L.O.E.
My assistant?  Chanelle

The first task was to get Miss Meadow to fall asleep.  Peace of cake, right?  Absolutely.

Chanelle and I removed all of her clothes before I fed her and waited for the golden moment.  After a bit of rocking she quickly fell asleep and I laid her in position. . . only to have her eyes POP back open again.

ARG!
Try again. . . lay her down. . POP.

ARG!
Again. . . ARG!  Again. . . ARG!  I lost count after about 12 times.  I suspect Meadow was feeling my frustration.  Thankfully, I had my calm assistant.

Over and over we tried, to no avail.  Until, that is, I thought to bring out the vacuum cleaner.  With one switch to the on position, Girlfriend fell asleep.

It looks like such a peaceful scene, doesn’t it?  What you can’t see in the photo is the obnoxiously loud vacuum cleaner that sits just feet away from my sleeping Meadow.  The other thing you don’t see is my sweaty brow, pounding heart, and erratic movements as I attempt to move Meadow to the exact right position.  Turns out my girl is quick to startle.  Her entire body jerked each time I attempted to get her feet in the perfect position. . . after about 45 minutes. . . I (almost) got the shot is was going for.

No matter how hard I tried, Girlfriend would not keep her feet up.

But we did the best we could.

My assistant was getting quite impatient, but she was a trooper.

And as soon as that vacuum cleaner was off. . . POP went her eyes once again.

Isn’t this how everyone spend an entire Friday afternoon?

I ran more than 30 miles last week and this was by far the best workout of the week.

Photographer I am not. . . but with such great subjects, I pretend to be.

We had a busy weekend filled with lots of laughs, surprises, and memories that will last a long time.  More about that later.  It’s late and I’m still recovering from my attempt to be a photographer.

Have a great Monday!!

Awe, I took that photo of E as a baby. The trick is holding their ankles under the blanket (so you can't see your hands). I like the usage of 'real' letters. I just added the letters as a layer in PS.

I think it still turned out really cute. Sweaty brow, vacuum and all. 😉ReplyCancel

One thing that changed my life when it comes to photography is my flash. I have a Nikon SB 800 speedlight and it amazes me how much better the pictures look and it gives you the ability to take pics you normally can't with the cameras pop up flash.

Your pics are great and photography will always have a learning curve but that what makes it so great. You never run out of ideas.
