Encouragement

I smile every time I see this commercial.

I was encouraged by a friend today.  This friend wrote words to me that made me stand a little bit taller.  Simple words that made me feel like I could move mountains.  Like I could change the world.  Like my presence, little as it may be, really makes a difference.

Encouragement is extraordinary.  It is so simple, yet so profound.  I am overwhelmed by the reality of the power I have to build up another person simply by speaking a few words.  I have been blessed to have so many wonderful encouragers in my life.  Some have been consistent cheerleaders from the first day of our meeting.  Others have phased in and out like teammates passing a baton in a relay race.  Each are necessary.  Each are invaluable.

I am so thankful for my encouragers.  I am thankful for the words of my friend.  And I am reminded that each day I have an opportunity to use my words in such a way that they can be received as a beautifully wrapped gift that will never be forgotten.

Flatter me, and I may not believe you.  Criticize me, and I may not like you.  Ignore me, and I may not forgive you.  Encourage me, and I will not forget you.  Love me and I may be forced to love you.
