After a Tragedy. . .

. . . I struggle to blog.

It seems irrelevant.  It seems unimportant.  Useless.

My sister called me at 3:14 p.m. and told me what had happened.  I didn’t turn on the news. . . a decision we have made to protect little eyes.

Instead we left the house.

Together the five of us laid a blanket in a grassy field and plopped ourselves down and enjoyed dinner on the ground.  The kids ran, and played, and laughed.

My heart was heavy.

I stepped back.  I watched.

I saw their innocence.

I saw their goodness.

I felt hope.

In the end I realized this:  For all the evil in the world–there is an abundance of good.

The world is not hopeless.

We can make a difference.  We all are making a difference.

You Mama’s.  You Daddy’s.  You Aunts and Uncles and Grandma’s and Grandpa’s.  Teachers.  Nurses.  Those who reach out.  Those who offer a smile or a kind world.

The good ones–they’re everywhere.

I bet if we tally the acts of good against the acts of evil–the good will win.

I’m holding on to that today.

Today I’m believing it–these kids will change the world–And that change will begin with us.

That is so true! As I walk through the store or in a playground .. When I see children I feel it is my responsibility to show kindness and compassion to them not just the babies and the toddlers but the children and teens that I run into … it may be one kind word or one gesture of compassion that turns a child… changes a mean thought pattern.. if we respond to their anger with anger or their frustration with frustration we only feed the problem. If we see a child in danger we act on it.. so why not love on them too? ReplyCancel
