Running Chatter

The countdown is nearing its end.  The end signifies the beginning.  Just seven days.  Seven days until the end of another school year and the beginning of summer break.  I kind of want to throw a “We Survived Another Year” Party.  But then again, I’m not really a party kind of girl.

Perhaps just some of the Running Chatter to mark this seventh day before the last day of school. . .

*******************************************

1.  Tuck
If you follow my 365-Project on Facebook, you already know about Tuck.

Chad found Tuck the turtle while working one day.  Of course his name wasn’t Tuck at the time–at least we don’t think it was.  Charlie, Chanelle, and Meadow named him after Tuck the Turtle of the Wonder Pets.  (I suspect all parents of little ones know who I’m talking about.)

Anyway, Chad brought Mr. Tuck home and the kids were instantly in love.

They got Tuck a box, they slept with him, fed him, and played with him and grew quite attached.

We made it pretty clear that Tuck was a temporary member of our family.  We made sure they knew what “temporary” meant. . .

“Short term.” “Not long”.  “Leaving soon”.  “Hello, Good-Bye”.

Much to the chagrin of my other four family members, I have a sort of no pet policy.  No pet, that is, until it is the four legged, furry, barking kind.

Tuck spent two beautiful days with us.  And then we said good-bye.

We set him loose in a beautiful place, so it made the farewell less difficult.

That and the fact that we went out for ice cream after, literally, kissing him good-bye.

2.  Baseball
We are in the middle of our first season of baseball.  Let’s be real for a minute.  Anyone who has ever seen me play a sport involving a ball, quickly learns that I’m a runner for a reason.  For example, when I play catch, I throw and catch with the same hand.  It goes like this–ball is thrown to Summer, (if lucky) Summer catches ball in glove in left hand, Summer takes glove off left hand, Summer picks up ball with left hand, Summer throws ball back with left hand.

Running is is far less complicated.  I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy baseball.

It turns out, I really like it and love watching my boy play. . .

Though he is still aware of my camera and hides his face when he catches me trying to catch him. . .

I guess sports are different when watching your own play. . .

3.  Art
One day Chanelle wanted to draw a turtle.

It turned into much more. . .

So much more. . .

She called it “Chanelle’s Art Gallery”. . .

That was two weeks ago.

The gallery still hangs in our kitchen.  We’re pretty proud of it.

4.  Zip Drives
Do you use zip drives?  They are so useful, right?  I mean the amount of data they can hold is so wonderful.  We have many of them–some hold documents, others hold pictures, we even have fancy zip drives that say SummerK Photography.

Meadow has her own use for them.  She accessorizes with them. . .

We pick our battles.

5.  The View
(Not the Barbra Walters kind.)

We have lived at our house for eight months now.  And still, eight months later, the view just takes my breath away. . .

I wonder if I’ll ever get tired of it.  I wonder if, 20 years down the road, I walk out to the porch or go to get the mail and glance over the hillside and not really see it.  I wonder if I’ll look past it.  I wonder if I’ll take it for granted.

I sure hope not. . .

I hope I always “see” it.

6.  Cows
Saturday morning I walked into my office and looked out the windows and noticed a different scene in front of me.

The cows that used to reside in the pasture down the hill from us have moved right across the street. . .

This is so exciting for us.  We find the cows quite entertaining and have noticed that they have become more in more comfortable with us.  Just tonight Charlie walked over the the fence and began mooing and guess what happened?

One by one they all began walking toward him.

I guess that means he speaks Cow?

7.  Little by Little

Between baseball games and Chad’s landscaper hours, the outside of our house is coming together slowly but surely with the help of tiny little hands and a pretty awesome FIL.

In all reality, I am pretty certain that THESE are the memories I will cherish about these years.  It won’t be the trips or the toys or even the parties or events.  I think it will be just us, together, getting dirty, digging deep, laughing, and playing.  Really, I think these will be the evenings I will miss the most when they are gone. . .

********************************

There is so much more I want to write–I will write.  But for now, it’s just my Chatter.

If your so inclined, I am also blogging over at SummerK as my season as started up again.

Have a beautiful day. . .
