January, so far you have delivered.

It’s January and we washed the car.

Okay, we didn’t wash the car,  Chad did.

And Charlie. . .
Even Chanelle got into the action.  . .

What did I do?  Well, I took pictures of course.  I mean, I’d hate to get the camera wet.

Oh, and I was also burning cookies inside.  I’ll spare you the photos of the charred chocolate chip cookies that I neglected while enjoying the outdoors.

It’s crazy to say it.  We were enjoying the outdoors on a January afternoon.  In Ohio.  Our usual cloud-covered, windy, snowy, and frigid temperatures were traded for sunshine, near 50-degree weather that was absolutely wonderful.  Meadow even got to enjoy the car wash.

She was sung as a bug basking in the sunshine while the rest of us played.

I think we all needed an afternoon like this.  The fresh air was was amazing and we were all given a little reminder that there will be sunny days again.  Since it felt like Spring, Charlie and Chanelle brushed up on their baseball skills.

And of course the classic shot with the tongue.

And I was reminded why I love natural light.

I’d say this was about as close to a perfect January afternoon as we could get.  Don’t get me wrong.  I enjoy the change of pace that winter brings.  Burrowing ourselves inside, sipping on hot cocoa while playing board games and finding fun crafts to do. Those are fun days, too, and we’ve done a lot of that.

Just last week we enjoyed time with friends who visited out of town.

Long, cold, winter days don’t seem quite as long when friends spend the day with us.  We were so happy when my dearest friend from high school visited with her two boys.

These boys have the most amazing eyes.  They did all they could to keep me from getting a shot–I only got one.

All day long our kids ran, screamed, jumped, and played to exhaustion.  I love when friends leave and Charlie and Chanelle ask “are they family?”.  The line between friends and family is so blurred and I intend for it to stay that way.

I know that our cold winter days have yet to greet us with all their ferociousness. I’m certain those days are ahead.  The days of being trapped inside are often more challenging to fill, but I have no doubt that we will fill them as best as we can. In the last seven weeks I have discovered that our greatest form of entertainment  has been found in this cute little face. . .

Little by little she is becoming more responsive and more aware.  Charlie and Chanelle are absolutely enamored with her.

I think we’ll be okay if we have to spend the remainder of January trapped inside being entertained by this little one.

Yes, that is her toes

In fact, I can think of nothing better.

Yes, January, you have delivered.

Thank you.
