Running Chatter

It’s late.  I won’t tell you exactly how late.  If I did, Chad would find out how late I was up blogging and then he would have no sympathy for me when I am fighting to keep my eyes open at dinner and he won’t let me blame it one being up feeding Meadow during the night.  So, I’ll just keep the time to myself.

Truth is, I look forward to the quiet of the evening.  The time after the laughter and whispers from Charlie and Chanelle’s room have subsided and Meadow’s melodic breathing hums across the monitor.  I think when I am older and living in an empty nest, I will look back at these evenings and miss knowing that they are there, so close and peaceful, just steps away.  It is in this atmosphere that I enjoy sitting with my laptop and capturing some final thoughts. It’s kind of like putting a period (or an exclamation point) at the end of a sentence.  It makes my day feel complete.  I do sacrifice a little bit of sleep to do it, but I think in the long run I will be thankful that I took the time.

So, let’s just assume it’s 9 p.m. and move on with some of my Running Chatter. . .

1.  One Hundred

I took picture 100 today.  Want to see?

Picture 100 for my 365 project, that is.  Seriously, when I uploaded the photo to my Flickr page, I half expected sirens, lights, and confetti congratulating me with shouts of Way to go, Summer!  Way to go!  Unfortunately, there was none of that.  I guess I still have 265 photos to go, so perhaps I shouldn’t celebrate quite yet.  I tell you, though, I’m expecting quite a celebration when I upload number 365.

I’m just sayin’.

2.  Favorite Things

If I were a rock star like Oprah and had my own talk show and could title a show “Summer’s Favorite Things”. . . I think it would get very low ratings.  There is no eyeliner that I would try to convince you that you can’t live without, or the perfect sweater or jeans or bra that you must have.  Instead, I’d stand on the stage and point you to a screen that displays this. . .

And most people would probably change the station and my live audience would probably boo me and walk out, but I would just sit and stare.  Because really, there are few things as wonderful and precious as seeing a Daddy and his baby girl.  Especially a baby girl that fits perfectly into the palm of his hand.

3.  Sisters

In case anyone wondered if they are really sisters. . .

. . . you don’t have to wonder anymore.

4.  My Boy

I love him.  I love that as he is getting older he has becoming someone that I just enjoy being around.  Someone who makes me smile.  Someone who is becoming his own person with his own opinions, thoughts and ideas.  As scary as this growing up thing is. . . it is equally as wonderful.

The other day I was walking through the kitchen while he was eating lunch.  As I walked by him he said, “Give me a hug, Mama”.  What?!  He’s inviting me for a hug? I’d rank this at the very top of my “Awesome Things That Happened This Week” list.  Oh yes, I love this little guy. . .

5.  Go ahead, I dare you. . .

I dare you not to smile at that smile.

No, I triple-dog-dare-you.

See, I knew you couldn’t do it.

6.  Innocence

I love the innocence of children.  I’ll own it–my kids rank pretty high on the innocence scale.  Especially this one. . .

Yesterday, both Charlie and Chanelle came home from a neighbors house with washable tattoos on their arms.  This led to a conversation about their Aunt Ashley’s tattoo’s.  We talked about how many she had and when we told them that he tattoo’s do not come off Chanelle did not believe us.  Finally, when we convinced her that her aunts tattoo’s “don’t even come off in the bathtub?!” she sat for a minute before informing us, “It’s okay, God made her that way.”

Yes, please.  I’d like to bottle that up and keep it forever.

7.  Cheeks

Sometimes, they get heavy.

Enough said.

****************************************

And now that it’s 9:12 p.m. (wink, wink) I should probably get to bed since Meadow will be up in a few hours.

Chatter Out.
