A Mix Up and a Photo Shoot

Thursday morning I heard the ding, ding on my phone and looked down to see a text from my sister.

Ashley: What are you doing on Sunday?
Me:  I’m not sure.  Why?
Ashley:  Do you want to go see The Bangles?Immediately I was transported back to the 80s.  I saw my teased white-hair poofed up into a  side-pony tail.  I saw myself walking down the sidewalk in the front of our house holding my fancy pink pocket rocker blaring out the lyrics to the best song ever. . . Manic Monday.  Of course, my 8 year old self didn’t understand the words so instead of singing “it’s just another Manic Monday. . .oh, oh. ”  I sang, “it’s just another man named Monday. . . oh, oh.”

I’m older and wiser now.  Now I realize the lyrics say “Manic” not “man named”.  In fact, I remember being so confused as to why a mother would name her son Monday.

Anyway, when my sister asked me to go see The Bangles I was pumped and ready for a blast-from-the-past-nostalgic-kind-of day.  Just like we did when we were younger, Ashley and I would rock out with The Bangles while singing Manic Monday, Eternal Flame, and Walk Like an Egyptian.

Sunday morning I left the house early to meet my sister half way.  I was surprised when I saw my Dad and my brother were also along,  Hmmm, I thought to myself, I didn’t know they were fans.  It didn’t matter to me, I was pumped and even brought Auqa Net just for memory’s sake.

I was kicking myself for not saving that pocket rocker.

We arrived to the venue with plenty of time and made our way to our seats.  That’s when I realized my mistake. . .My sister wasn’t referring to The Bangles

She was referring to the Bengals.  You see, Summer and football rarely cross paths.  It never crossed my mind.

Ah, now it made more sense that my brother and my Dad were along.

(Note:  this story was purely for entertainment value.  There may or may not have been some half truths and fabrications within the story.  Please feel free to choose what you will and will not believe). Now that we have that out of the way, I’d like to take a moment to share some images I was able to capture of a wonderful family.

Using the word “wonderful” probably seems like a generic term that you might use to describe anyone.  However, I really know this family, because, they are my family.

I recently had an opportunity to spend a morning with my brother and his family to capture some of their precious moments.

The morning was cold, dreary, and chilly, but the love that existed among these family members provided plenty of warmth.

As I’ve said before, I consider it a privilege to stand back and capture these moments.  To pause time in all its complexity and simplicity and hand it over as the gift that it is, is something I am so honored to do.

Thank you, Damon and Melisa, for letting me spend this morning with your beautiful family!

It’s Monday, Friends. . .

Enjoy it!

Oh Summer, the black and white photo of the Mom and her two daughters is dripping with emotion. Sweet, wonderful, incredible emotion. Oh, I love it.

(And I didn't even remotely think football team, either. 🙂 But when you announced it was a football game and not a concert my major concern, "Omg. What was she wearing?")

    Hugs.
