I remember sitting in our kitchen sometime during my preteen or early teen years and watching my Dad have a conversation with my brother.  My brother was two years older than me he was standing on the precipice of the dramatic high school dating scene.  I remember my Dad being very specific with my brother […]

Ahh, we are so much alike. Don't worry, I'm stuffy and old-fashioned too. 😉 I think a lot of 'women' (if you want to call them that) think it's 'cool' to not be classy these days…and well, I think our current society pushes that mentality too. It's sad.

My girls are taught to be little ladies and I'm going to try my best to raise our son to be the utmost gentleman.ReplyCancel

I always take notice and am impressed when I see young people, ie pre-teens and teens, open a door for me, take notice that I have little kids and adjust their behavior, say thank you. I make a point to show respect back to them. To see that some people still care to teach their kids these things is encouraging and heart warming.
I think this is something that gets passed from generation to generation. And when it isn't present in one, it doesnt get passed to the next and has to be taught by others and society.ReplyCancel

O I am so oldfzshioned too! Though my boys are 22 and 19. We have tried to instill in them how to be gentlemen. I pray they have heard! I too am I am Impfessed with young men opening doors. I still like being shown those things. I would have been sick on my stomache too. It starts at home. Your children will be fine! Plus they have two parents that were taught this!ReplyCancel

Just over one year ago, I spent a weekend with my Dad.  A weekend with just the two of us.  It was processing the thoughts from that weekend that finally gave me the courage to start this blog.  It took three “test” posts before I felt ready to write about what I really wanted to […]

    Wow. Wow.

You know, I cannot think of one other woman I know (our age) who has EVER done such a trip with JUST her Dad. I love it.

My favorite: "I don't know this for sure, but I would bet about a million dollars that my Dad never read one book about how to be a good Dad. Somehow, he just knew what to do. And what he did was show up."

    Amen.ReplyCancel

Hadn't stopped by your blog, I guess, since your July 1 post…and, as I read through your posts, as things touched me, made me laugh, or I had a need to share your ability to take such meaningful pictures – I would show them to Eric so that he could also share in your creativity and thoughtfulness. I am deeply moved at times by your writings often with tears in my eyes, a laugh out loud:), or a recognition of a shared feeling or thought that I haven't had the ability to put into words and you do so well! I am challenged with the thoughts of wanting to be at place that we aren't yet at, ie, Eric is now done with seminary, I am still working full time, he part time and with the kids while I'm at work while he looks for a job…but as i struggle to be a working mom now of 2, I often find myself longing for Eric to find his job so that I can be at home (one of the many reasons), but then, I get worried that I may miss these moments if I focus on what I don't have instead of what I do. So much of what you focus on is the little things, the simple, and reading your blog reminds me of that same practice that is so needed in my daily life as well. So keep it up, Summer, you are beautiful, your children are beautiful, and I even think Chad :):) is beautiful too! Can't wait to "meet" your new little Kellogg, they will be here before you know it!! Love ya, friend — Kendra GeorgeReplyCancel

I am battling a cold.  So far, the cold is winning.  I’ve blown through (ha. . . blown!) four box of Kleenex in three days.  My nose looks like I outlined it in a Rose shade of lipstick.  Sleep has become somewhat of a challenge as the faucet that has replaced my nose seems to […]

TL. . . I got a Jack LaLanne power juicer. It's a mid range model. . . I think they make them better and worse. I found a deal at Bed Bath and Beyond. So far we've had no problems with it and have used it daily.ReplyCancel
